New First Aid Requirements For Grade 10 + students in BC Schools
Did You Know?
There is a new rule as of July 1, 2025, for all BC high schools to have CPR and AED training as of Sept 1, 2025, for all grade 10 and up students.
New First Aid Requirements:
What BC Schools Need to Know
The BC Ministry of Education and Child Care will add CPR and AED training to all the Grade 10 Physical and Health Education curriculum starting July 1st, 2025, for the 2025-2026 school year.
The goal is for all students to learn basic life-saving principles without requiring certification, though schools may offer certification if desired.
Teachers will have flexibility to adapt lessons to their students’ needs, with resources available from the ACT Foundation. Naloxone administration will not be a mandatory topic, but can be taught at schools’ discretion based on local needs (highly recommended).
What Teachers Need To Know
All secondary schools must be equipped with an AED by December 31, 2025
All elementary and middle schools must be compliant by September 8, 2026
